Spice Drawers
This
elegant and stylish mini chest of drawers would happily
grace anyone's kitchen or dining room. It is made from
spalted English elm. The spalting is caused by a fungal
attack during growth and adds enhancing features to
the grain. Each row of drawers is graduated. All the
faces are cut from the same piece of wood allowing the
grain to flow across the front. Each knob has been hand
turned from a range of hardwoods including yew and holly.
The colours are also graduated, from dark to light,
bottom to top.
For interest the lower plinth was
made from Australian she oak, a reddish coloured hardwood.
To blend in with this, and create contrast, the elm
in the main carcase has been finished with a colour
enhancing wax of a similar hue. The drawer fronts have
been left in their natural colour and finished with
clear wax.
Although designed as a set of graduated
drawers for storing spices this piece could have a multiplicity
of uses. Alternative styles and sizes can be made to
order. Please contact us to discuss your individual
requirements.
(This piece features in one of
Peter's books published
in the US and due out this year in the UK and Europe,
"The Woodworking Manual"
published by Parragon).
