About
DCF
Dairy Cottage Furniture was founded
by Peter Bishop in the early 1990's. This was a result
of a decision to formalise his furniture making activities.
Peter now has over forty years experience within the
timber and allied industry sector. He trained as a wood
machinist, carpenter and joiner in the early 1970's
and has been honing his skills ever since.
To back up his credentials Peter
is a Certificated Member of the Institute
of Wood Science. He has also achieved credit passes
in the City
and Guilds of London Institute Advanced Craft Certificate
in Machine Woodworking - Joinery.
The workshop is based in rural
Herefordshire where it makes full use of the local resources.
Materials are matched to each commission. Solid wood
predominates however, where appropriate, combinations
of alternative or complimentary materials are incorporated.
Construction techniques are a mix of the best traditional
and contemporary methods.
Other, specialist craftspeople
are used to provide dedicated services when required.
For example French polishing, rush or cane seating and
carving.
Peter's vision for Dairy Cottage
Furniture is that it should provide a top quality service
using a combination of traditional and modern techniques
and materials. Each commission or restoration project
is discussed in great detail with the client before
work commences. Dairy Cottage Furniture's objectives
are to provide total satisfaction. This means that new,
repair or restoration projects are tailored to suit
the client, their end use and environment in which they
are located.

Peter has restored some
very distressed pieces of furniture for us returning
them to their former glory. He has also made bespoke
items. As always Peter exceeds our expectations.
